Volunteer Custodians Needed
The WSBA is seeking interested lawyers as potential volunteer custodians under Rule
for Enforcement of Lawyer Conduct (ELC) 7. 7. An appointed custodian is authorized
to act as counsel for the limited purpose of protecting a client’s interests whenever a
lawyer has been transferred to disability inactive status, suspended, disbarred, dies,
or disappears and no person appears to be protecting the client’s interests. The custodian takes possession of the necessary files and records and takes action to protect
the client’s interests. The custodian may act with a team of custodians and much of
the work may be performed by supervised staff. If the WSBA is notified of the need for
a custodian, the WSBA would affirm the willingness and ability of a potential volunteer
and seek his or her appointment as custodian. Costs incurred may be reimbursed.
Current WSBA members of all practice areas are welcome to apply. Contact Sandra
Schilling at email@example.com, 206-239-2118 or 800-945-9722, ext. 2118, or Darlene
