Child support orders and death of
child or parent. Child support orders
are no longer valid if the child dies or if
the obligor parent dies. To protect the
best interests of the child, the parties by
agreement may add language that the
child support obligation is to be insured
by life insurance on the obligor parent.
Update wills at conclusion of family
law matter. At the conclusion of a dissolution case, family law attorneys should
remind their clients to change or update
their wills and power of attorney documents, and to review and change their
beneficiaries on bank accounts and retirement accounts.
